Nintendo Switch Online Service Set To Launch Mid-September

It looks like the Big N will release Nintendo Switch online service sometime in the mid-part of September or, in a fancy way, in the second half of September. This is said to be a “great time” for Nintendo Switch fans to plan ahead for the new service.

Folks who own a Switch and are curious as to what their Nintendo Switch Online membership will offer should know that nintendo.com/whatsnew has a lot of info on the situation. However, you can also catch highlights right here which include the following:

  • Online play in compatible games, including Splatoon 2, ARMS, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Mario Tennis Aces, and more.
  • Nintendo Entertainment System – Nintendo Switch Online – A selection of classic NES games with newly added online play.
  • Save Data Cloud Backup – Save your game data online for easy access*. This makes it easy to retrieve your game data if you lose your system or start using a new one.

It’s worth noting that Nintendo Switch owners won’t automatically become members when the service starts. In other words, when the service goes live during September, you will need to activate it (for individual use or as a family membership) in order to avoid disruption of online play in compatible games.

Speaking of memberships, pricing for Individual and Family plans can be found right here:

Individual Memberships:

  • 1 Month: $3.99 USD / €3.99 / 300 yen
  • 3 Months: $7.99 USD / €7.99 / 800 yen
  • 12 Months: $19.99 USD / €19.99 / 2,400 yen

Family Membership:

  • 12 Months: $34.99 / €34.99 / 4,500 yen

Furthermore, if you own multiple Nintendo Switch systems, you can use the Online function on any device by signing in with the Nintendo Account that purchased the membership.

After the September 2018 launch, Nintendo Switch Online memberships will be available for purchase on Nintendo.com, on the Nintendo eShop, and through select retailers.

You can learn more about the whole online function coming later in September by visiting nintendo.com/switch or nintendo.com/whatsnew.
