Neko Works’ Super Night Riders, the 3D arcade-style racing game, has finally made its way onto the PS4 after initially releasing on PC two years ago in 2016. The French game designer made the announcement via Twitter, indicating that starting today, August 14th, you can pick up a digital copy of Super Night Riders for the PS4 for $7.99. During the first week of being on sale, there’s a 10% off discount that you can take advantage of, knocking it down to just $6.79.
The game also launched on Xbox One two years ago, but the Xbox crowd wasn’t as forgiving as the PC audience. A number of reviewers cited frame-rate issues and hiccups in the performance that prevented Super Night Riders from becoming as visually as addictive is it could have been; couple that with the fact that there were complaints about a lack of content and you end up with a rather unappealing Metacritic score both by critics and gamers alike.
Hopefully the frame-rate issues have been resolved for the PS4 release of Super Night Riders, as it would surely make the game a lot more digestible in the entertainment department. You can see what the gameplay is like with the trailer below.
The updated version of the game clocks in at just 123MB on the PS4, and it’s designed around capturing the nostalgic early 1990s arcade racer feel from the old parlors and Sega classics.
You take on the role of Alice, the Red Rider, as she attempts to travel as far and as fast as possible before the timer runs out. Your objective is to race from night ’till dawn.
You have two different visual filters to play around with, including super and classic, along with 36 different stages stretched across six different courses.
After several updates and some optimization support, Super Night Riders managed to capture its own niche audience on Steam, so maybe it’ll do the same on the PS4.
