NIS America announced that there’s a new game in the works called The Liar Princess and The Blind Prince for the Nintendo Switch and the PlayStation 4.
The game is about a little prince who wanders into a dark forest in search of the source of a beautiful song he hears every night. The prince is unable to find the source, until one night he follows the tune to a wolf who sings her songs into the night sky. Startled by the presence of the young prince, the wolf swipes her claws at the prince, blinding him in the process before fleeing into the darkness of night.
The blind prince is now trapped in the forest, with no eyesight and no way to make his way back home. The trick to the story is that the wolf that blinded the prince is actually a beautiful princess, who can transform into the wolf. Feeling bad for having blind the young boy, the princess decides to become his guide, and help him make his way through the dark and dangerous forest in order to find a cure for his eyesight, and help him return back home.
You can check out the announcement trailer for the game below to get an idea of what the gameplay is like for the upcoming PS4 and Nintendo Switch release.
The announcement trailer basically recounts the basic story of the game and the adventure of the prince and princess as they attempt to make their way back to the prince’s home. The hook for the game is that players will need to transform into the wolf in order to battle against the forces of darkness within the forest.
So the reason the princess is called a liar is because she has to lie to the prince about her true form as a dangerous wolf. She also keeps from him the truth about her being the one who swiped out his eyes.
In a way, she attempts to help him survive through the dark forest as a way to make amends for her transgression against him.
I have no idea how any of this really plays into the overall gameplay, but Nippon Ichi Software really went out of their way to craft an interesting set of characters and craft a lot of worldbuilding for The Liar Princess and The Blind Prince.
The game is set to release in early 2019 for the Nintendo Switch and PS4. I’m mostly curious to see what the actual gameplay will look like for the title. I’m not fond of the fact that they also have pre-orders open over on the official website without actual details on the gameplay. Poor form, NIS, poor form.
