Focus Home Interactive and Cyanide Studios’ Call of Cthulhu is due out on October 30th this week. The first-person horror game is a fictional period-piece based on H.P. Lovecraft’s iconic work that explored the fascination and madness of cosmic horror. Leading up to the game’s release, the official launch trailer dropped, giving gamers one final promo piece for the game ahead of its launch.
The near two-minute trailer features a cinematic of a character running through the woods on a dark and gloomy night. The cinematic attempts to give gamers a very brief glimpse of what to expect from the story and atmosphere, as we follow a woman who is an artist that falls victim to the cult of Cthulhu.

The trailer doesn’t feature any gameplay whatsoever. Instead we get a brief backstory on what happens to one of the last remaining family members at the estate that investigator Edward Pierce is eventually lured into investigating.
Pierce, upon arriving on the island where the manor is located, quickly finds out that things are not quite as they seem, and he’s eventually thrust into a spiraling tale of deceit and occultism that brings him face to face with the visage of madness that makes it difficult to tell if it’s real or just his own inner demons from his past as a soldier coming back to haunt him.
Like most H.P. Lovecraft tales, Cyanide is staying true to the unfolding plot themed around the descent into hysteria, which was a common trait in most of Lovecraft’s works. The game will center around players exploring and uncovering the secrets of the Hawkins’ family estate, and the role that the occult played in the family’s eventual demise.
You can look for Call of Cthulhu to launch on October 30th at the end of the month for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
