Reign Of The Supermen Trailer Has A Bunch Of Superman Wannabes Trying To Be Heroes

DC Entertainment released a new trailer for the upcoming animated film called Reign Of The Supermen, which is due out on Blu-Ray and DVD in 2019. The crazy part about it is that it looks like it gives fans the Superman story they always wanted.

The film is a follow-up to the animated feature The Death of Superman, which chronicled Superman’s fight to the death to save the Earth. After biting the dust, a bunch of other Supermen begin to emerge as the Justice League attempts to deal with the loss of their comrade.

We get a Superboy, a cosmic version of Superman, a black guy in a super-suit imitating Superman, and a robot version of Superman. While it might seem like a Superman battle royale might take place, it turns out that they’re actually there to help save Earth from an impending invasion.

Now this is still set within the New 52-style animated timeline, so Superman in this universe is portrayed as slightly dickish, but not quite as bad as the way Zack Snyder depicted him.

DC has always been a step ahead of the competition in the animation department. I still think they peaked with Flashpoint Paradox. That film is just a masterwork in crazy-tense storytelling. It really puts the heroes and their powers into perspective when they start fighting to the death. It was like the Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe we should have received.

Anyway, the upcoming film Reign Of The Supermen has an interesting premise, and despite the groundwork of the New 52 largely being unappealing for a number of reasons, the animated arm of DC at least seem to be introducing some compelling story elements and characterizations that I hope they don’t jettison for the kind of sloppy payoffs the live-action films have chased after or the “woke” silliness that is rife within the DC shows airing on the CW Network.

You can look for Reign of The Supermen to drop on digital streaming services and on Blu-ray and DVD in 2019.
