Dieselpunk 2.5D action game, Steel Rats, has officially launched on the PlayStation 4 and on Steam and GOG.com for PC. The game combines racing with combat beat-’em-up gameplay.
The story centers around a bunch of junk bot aliens invading an urban city, running amok and turning things into a living hell for the residents. The only way to stop the junk-bot menace is for a group known as the Steel Rats to step in and destroy the robots. The Steel Rats is a “diverse” motorcycle gang who uses their high-tech bikes to fight off the invading menace.
The Steel Rats consist of four members, James the leader, Lisa, Randall, and Toshi.
The four characters each have their own bikes and can use special abilities to take out the robot enemies, including using grappling hooks to trip them up, using fiery abilities to blow them up, projectiles to shoot them, and various stunts to blast through them.
It’s definitely a unique kind of game as it combines side-scrolling stunt-racing with beat-’em-up style combat. It’s almost like Streets of Rage meets Trials.
Steel Rats is currently available right now on PC and PS4 for $19.99. During the first week of being on sale the game is discounted by 15% off on PC. You can also get your hands on some of the DLC skin packs for free.
Given today’s sociopolitical climate, a game like Steel Rats will face an uphill struggle given that anytime a core gamer will see a game promoting “diversity”, they’re instantly going to feel reserved about supporting the title, especially given the double standards that companies like Sony have been utilizing regarding their censorship policies.
Even still, if you’re interested in a game like Steel Rats the game is currently available right now for the PlayStation 4 and on GOG.com and Steam for PC.
