The Shapeshifting Detective, FMV Murder Mystery Arrives On PS4, Xbox One, Switch

The noir murder-mystery game from Wales Interactive, The Shapeshifting Detective, recently launched for the Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch and on Steam for PC. The game is a throwback to the old whodunit crime capers of old, with the 1990’s-style FMV twist to give the game something unique to stand out among the bunch. Well, it would have been unique if there weren’t like a handful of other FMV games to come out in recent times like The Infectious Madness of Doctor Dekker; the crime-thriller Late Shift; the deaf beat-’em-up The Quiet Man; or the quirky crime-drama, 428: Shibuya Scramble.

Wales Interactive and D’Avekki Studios are actually responsible for Late Shift and THe Infectious Madness of Doctor Dekker, so in a way this kind of a continuation of their efforts to help revitalize the very niche FMV sub-genre of adventure games.

The game centers around a detective who heads to a spooky town called August to investigate the mysterious death of the supposedly “slutty” chick named Dorota Shaw.

The prime suspects are three tarot readers who supposedly predicted the murder or possibly one of the individuals who committed the murder. The hook for the game is that you have the ability to shapeshift into different people, hence the namesake of The Shapeshifting Detective.

Players will have to weed out information from the suspects by turning into other people, which is a nice little gimmick to help give players something unique to sink their teeth into.

The game boasts an impressive 1600 different full HD video responses for the questioning interface, and a random murderer who will be chosen at the start of each new playthrough, so no two playthroughs will be exactly alike.

You can pick up a digital copy of The Shapeshifting Detective for $12.99. During the first week of being on sale on the Steam store you can grab a copy for 20% off the normal price. The game is also available on the Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One.
