Bigben Interactive and Eko Software managed to get Warhammer: Chaosbane on the radar of core gamers after taking digs at Blizzard for their Diablo Immortal blunder at BlizzCon. However, getting in a sick burn against a company like Blizzard for some modest social media recognition isn’t really enough to make your game stand on its own two legs, which is why Bigben followed up the social media post with a brand new trailer for Warhammer: Chaosbane featuring the fully-armored soldier, Konrad Vollen.
The new two minute trailer is narrated by a developer from Eko Software, who reminds gamers that the game is still in development, but doesn’t hesitate to showcase some pretty impressive visuals and solid looking gameplay.
We’re given a brief backstory on Vollen, and we learn that he can basically tank enemies in hordes, and he can also crowd control in order to get enemies to focus on him instead of his teammates. You can check out the video below.
The action-RPG features the typical hack-and-slash gameplay with a strong focus around cooperative mechanics. There are four playable characters and each one fulfills a role, not unlike Fatshark’s first-person co-op game Warhammer: Vermintide.
The big difference between the two is that Warhammer: Chaosbane is like Diablo, where you need to manage your positioning, kite the enemies into zones, and utilize AOE attacks to whittle down their forces. Vermintide is more of a stick-and-move kind of game where you’re constantly trying to stay light on your feet and avoid being swarmed by enemies.
Not every game can really dabble in the arena of being a Diablo clone, but the Warhammer franchise was always ripe for that opportunity. It’s nice that Eko Software has gone back the old world and really focused on honing in on the architecture, the art-style, and the Gothic atmosphere that helps bring Games Workshop’s world to life.
You can look for Warhammer: Chaosbane to launch for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC in 2019.
