Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey Is An Open-World Adventure Set 9.5 Million Years B.C.

Former Ubisoft developers who worked on games like Assassin’s Creed are currently hard at work on Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey, an open-world adventure game that features hunting, survival, and free-space exploration.

You start off as an dryopithecus and work your way up towards the australopithecus over the course of millions of years, starting at 9.5 million years B.C.E., and attempt to survive as a variety of species leading up to 2 million B.C.E. Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey is in development by Panache Digital Games and Private Division.

The game never leaves the prehistoric era, but you you’ll be able to swing from trees like a monkey, use sticks to beat things down, and attempt to take care of your offspring. You can check out the trailer that dropped at The Game Awards to get an idea of what the gameplay is like.

According to Panache Digital Games developers, the idea is to survive and proceed through the various eras until you reach the era of “Lucy”, the famous australopithecus.

And no, you won’t be running around as the depiction of “Lucy” by Luc Besson in the movie starring Scarlet Johansson who was looking smoking hot in that little black dress by the end of the flick.

Instead, you’ll just do survival stuff in the game where you attempt to find ways to gather food, avoid being killed by larger predators, and find ways to keep your lineage going.

Depending on how the game is setup and what the general mechanical loops are like will determine how fun the game is. A lot of this will also be dependent on the AI. An aggressive, unrelenting artificial intelligence will literally make or break the game, because if the predators are ferocious and constantly on the prowl, then it means that the game will keep you on your toes and the intensity high.

The game is due out in 2019 for PS4, Xbox One and PC. You can keep track of the developmental progress by paying a kind visit to the official website.
