Overkill’s The Walking Dead Sales Tank Forcing Starbreeze CEO To Resign

Starbreeze announced that Overkill’s The Walking Dead has died so badly on the market and tanked so hard in sales that the CEO, Bo Andersson, and board of director Kristofer Arwin, have both resigned in light of the restructuring that the company will undergo to offset all of the loses incurred from the game’s massive flop.

As much as it might read like hyperbole, Starbreeze announced it themselves over on the official website, where it was stated…

“[…] with the latest statistics from Overkill’s The Walking Dead (including effects from latest marketing efforts) affecting the forecasted sales, it has reduced the short term forecasted revenue resulting in an expected shortfall of cash in January 2019.

“[…] As also announced today, Bo Andersson will leave his position as CEO. Bo Andersson and Kristofer Arwin have further resigned from Starbreeze Board of Directors effective immediately. Reconstruction would not entail any other changes to the management or the Board of the company of the Company who will continue to be responsible for its operation.”

Despite being a smelly turd on the marketplace, Starbreeze isn’t giving up on Overkill’s The Walking Dead.

In fact the company recently put out a new trailer advertising a second season of content for the game. Yes, Overkill’s The Walking Dead is getting a second season of content.

The trailer centers around the group of survivors attempting to survive a soldier who has been imprisoned. The new episode is titled “No Sanctuary”, and it involves the four “diverse” survivors fighting against other soldiers to rescue the imprisoned soldier.

The soldier apparently has “life-saving” information, and this daring rescue will be the first of nine episodes that will release between November, 2018 and June, 2019.

There will also apparently be new characters to play, new weapons implemented, and new mods to utilize.

Whether or not the new content will save the co-op survival shooter remains to be seen, but it definitely puts a hole in the theory that single-player games are dying while multiplayer games are thriving.
