Saber Interactive released a new trailer for World War Z, the game based on Paramount Pictures’ blockbuster zombie flick. The new trailer outlines the different character classes you can take control of in the game. The trailer outlines the handful of classes that range from the Slasher, to the Hellraiser, to the Exterminator, to the Gunslinger.
Each class is based around different types of playstyles. So if you prefer melee combat then you can go with the Slasher, who uses a variety of melee weapons and attacks to hack and slash their way through the various zombies.
If you like healing yourself and your teammates, you can check out the Medic, who has both short range and long range healing capabilities.
There’s also the Fixer, who can apparently utilize turrets and works as an engineer for the team. You can check out the trailer below.
The first couple of classes almost made me fearful that this was going to be another one of those games where there’s a “diverse” cast of characters but no straight, white males. It’s become a common occurrence in games from developers to phase out white males as playable characters in an attempt to cater to the phantom audience. This hasn’t helped any games sell more, though, it usually does the opposite, making games sell less and eventually causing them to go broke. We call this “Get Woke, Go Broke”, and in doing so it sets a shining example of how not to make your game.
In the case of World War Z, there’s still obvious pandering to the diversity agenda, but we all know that that won’t help the game sell. A lot of it will boil down to how fun the gunplay is, how intense the levels are, and how well the cooperative play is implemented.
For now, the trailers have mostly focused on the path-swarming of the zombie AI, which looks impressive in motion but how well it coincides with creating intense, focused gameplay is another story.
World War Z, the four-player cooperative shooter, is due for release on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and on PC in 2019. Saber Interactive hasn’t clarified if it will launch the game on the Epic Games Store or Steam just yet.
