During the February 13th, 2019 Nintendo Direct, the Big ‘N’ announced that Super Mario Maker 2 is in the works and set to release on the Nintendo Switch this June.
The side-scrolling game maker includes all of the traditional building parts from the 8-bit and 16-bit side-scrolling games featuring Super Mario and Luigi, along with some new parts and pieces from the 3D side-scrolling games that released on the Wii and Wii U, such as New Super Mario Bros.
Part of the announcement trailer for the game sports some a lot of new gameplay mechanics and suits for Mario and Luigi. We see that you can create all new transparent tubes, 3D obstructions and enemies, as well as modify the stage timer, the items and coins you can acquire, as well as having the ability to scale the levels as you see fit.
As noted in the Nintendo Direct, you’re now able to create slopes for the first time, allowing you to slide down declining hills and platforms, along with making use of some brand new tools.
This is basically the side-scrolling version of RPG Maker but with the added bonus of being able to quickly construct and build courses using the Switch’s touchscreen controls while playing in portable mode, so you can build courses from the comfort of your couch while chowing down on Cheetos and then take the Switch with you and finish building your stage while you take a trip to the bathroom to drop a deuce on the throne.
For people who enjoyed the concept of Super Mario Maker but hated having to purchase a Wii U to play it (or if you lack a proper PC to emulate it) you can grab a copy of Super Mario Maker 2 on the Nintendo Switch this June. You’ll also be able to save and share your levels with friends, family, and rivals alike.
