I imagine there will be core gamers of two minds about the Xbox Games With Gold line-up for February, as revealed over on the Major Nelson blog. On one side there’s going to be gamers who grew up playing some of the classics included in the line-up that will absolutely adore the titles on offer for the month, while the second group will likely despise that such a poor slate of games are being offered up for the February Games With Gold.
The Xbox One crowd get it off the worse in terms of titles made available explicitly for the Xbox One, since there’s Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon, which will be available all throughout February. The 8-bit side-scroller is unlikely to set the burning hearts of gamers on fire with a desire to dive back into that one, while Super Bomberman R, which will be available from February 16th to March 15th, is the sort of thing most core gamers are going to “meh” at like an alpha male checking out a Twitter feminist at a tiki bar at the Kolokytha beach in Greece.
The two saving graces for the month are obviously Assassin’s Creed: Rogue, which stars an actual proper straight, white, normal male in the lead role. It’s also the last good Assassin’s Creed game that Ubisoft made.
Take note that it’s the Xbox 360 version of the game and not the remastered version of the game, which is kind of a dick move when you think about it. The last of the real Assassin’s Creed games will be available between February 1st and February 15th.
Additionally, there will be Star Wars: Jedi Knight – Jedi Academy made available for the Xbox One as well, although it’s actually an OG Xbox release. You’ll be able to play it as a backwards compatible title.
Unfortunately the game doesn’t come with mods or any of the cool stuff that makes it a legendary Star Wars game on PC.
Even still, Jedi Academy still has a better story than any of the newer Star Wars films, especially if you choose to go down the dark side.
These games will be made available right now and throughout February for Xbox One owners. I doubt any of these games will make people feel like their annual subscription to Xbox Live was worth it, but it is what it is.
