Dangerous Driving will be a timed exclusive on the Epic Games Store for PC when it launches on April 9th next month. It will also appear on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The physical version of the game being distributed by Maximum Games for PS4 and Xbox One will come package with Three Fields Entertainment’s Danger Zone 2 as a free bonus for $39.99. That’s actually not that bad a price for a physical double-pack of games.
Alternatively you can pre-purchase the game digitally on PC for $26.99.
As for the game modes, there will be nine different gameplay modes made available in Dangerous Driving, which is a spiritual successor to the kind of gameplay offered in Burnout 3, since some of the developers who worked at Criterion to create that classic game during sixth gen have been creating new games at Three Fields to capture the spirit of Burnout, since Electronic Arts has no intentions on making fun games anymore.
The game includes the following options:
- Race
- Heatwave
- Face Off
- Shakedown
- Eliminator
- GP
- Survival
- Pursuit
- Road Rage
The Race mode is one of the most iconic modes in the Burnout series, and all of the elements from that series carries over into Dangerous Driving, where players will have to outwit, out-race, out-maneuver, and out-crash five other opponents across a variety of tracks. You’ll need to utilize trakedowns, close-calls, drifts, and traffic-dodging to burn rubber from the starting line to the finish like some kind of motorized demon shredding through the caverns of Satan’s soul to bring your piston-pumping, gas-guzzling, metal-twisting beast through the pole position as if you were ascending through the very gates of Heaven itself.
Heatwave is a completely different challenge where you don’t have any takedowns active and your goal will be to utilize your skills for tearing corners and gripping the straightaways like a chainsaw digging its teeth into an endless line of trees with the sole intent of using precision skills to cut through the competition and reach the goal without wiping out.
Face Off is a classic one-on-one challenge, where players will put their mettle to the test against a single foe where the stakes are high but the opportunity of capitalizing on pride is even higher. Takedowns are active, so you’ll have to stay on your guard and use whatever means possible to prevent them from beating you.
Shakedown is a beat the clock challenge, where you’ll need to complete a lap as fast as possible to post the fastest time possible.
Eliminator is another throwback to old-school arcade elimination modes where the goal is to knock off one opponent per lap. You’ll have five laps to be the last racer riding, and make sure you pray to the combustion gods that you don’t finish any lap in last place.
GP is an interesting race event mode where you’ll need to complete a series of three race events and accrue enough points to finish in first. It’s like a short grand prix.
Survival mode is a solo event where you need to race through a series of checkpoints and attempt to make it to finish line without crashing or running out of time. It’s the ultimate challenge insofar that it requires you to both be aggressive and cautious in how you attack the track.
Pursuit is a nod to the Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit and Most Wanted series, where you’ll take on the role of a police cruiser and use your driving skills to enforce the laws and rundown the evil racers before they escape your grasp.
And finally, there is Road Rage, which is a mode where you’ll need to take down as many opponents as possible before time runs out.
You can look for the game to make an appearance at PAX East this weekend where you can demo the game ahead of its release on April 9th.
