Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice Launch Trailer Showcases Solid Looking Swordplay And Boss Fights

Activision and From Software’s Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is probably one of the most understated, under-marketed hardcore action titles that Activision has published. The game is due out on March 22nd, 2019 next week and most people probably forgot that it was coming out. Anyway, the launch trailer dropped for the title, giving gamers an opportunity to get one more good look at the gameplay before it launches on PS4, Xbox One, and PC next week.

The trailer is just under three minutes long, capturing both the cinematics and the gameplay mechanics. You can check it out for yourself courtesy of Gamespot.

The trailer starts with a giant ox with a flaming hay bail attached as a yoke as it attacks the the main character.

The cinematics and the gameplay seem to connect seamlessly, where we see the main protagonist using his magical makeshift arm to grapple around the environment, and fighting enemies with some Tenchu-quality swordplay.

The fighting actually looks a heck of a lot better than I thought it would. You can attack and dodge, combo and parry with seamless transitions that give the combat a nice dynamic back-and-forth feel.

It’s obvious From Software has made sure that the game feels similar to Dark Souls but diverts enough from the formula to feel like a different beast. The environmental scaling and some of the stealth attacks really do remind me of Tenchu.

Whether or not the game will be as well received as Dark Souls is a completely different matter. However, some gamers are worried because as reported by Push Square, there will not be any pre-release review copies made available. So press will be playing the game day and date alongside normal gamers and YouTube content creators.

If the game is fun then it’s not like Activision and From Software are losing out on anything because press are corrupt and poorly skilled at playing video games anyway. If the game is crappy then, well… everyone who purchases the game day-one is screwed.

As mentioned, you can look for Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice to arrive on home consoles and PC starting March 22nd.
