Ukrainian developer Frogwares announced that they will be releasing The Sinking City on June 27th, 2019 this summer for the Xbox One, PS4, and PC. The reason for the late June release is because the developers believe that it’s an empty part of the year where they don’t have to worry about competing against a bunch of other big AAA titles.
The news came courtesy of a brief developer video log that Frogwares rolled out, which you can check out below.
The release date is pretty far out, but not unexpected. Frogwares and Bigben Interactive likely wanted a month where they didn’t have to worry about competing with big releases such as Days Gone or Anthem or any of those other titles where the spotlight could be shifted away from their game.
In addition to getting some breathing room, Frogwares also noted that the extra bit of time will be used for optimization as well, saying…
“With so many games set to come out over the next few months, and after the massive AAA release overload of February, the team have decided to release their game in a less crowded time-frame. The additional time will also be spent on minor improvements and polishing the game.”
The Sinking City is shaping up to be a pretty cool game. It mixes together a detective noir story with over-the-shoulder action-horror all set within a Lovecraftian universe.
Players take on the role of a private detective named Charles Reed who ventures into a small, disturbed town called Oakmont, set in Massachusetts. The town has become flooded, submerged under water. There are also dark secrets affecting the general atmosphere of the remote location that houses cosmic horrors.
So far The Sinking City looks like it will be a pretty solid title. With the new release date in tow for the PS4, Xbox One and PC, you can look to get in on the action starting June 27th.
