Three Fields Entertainment’s Dangerous Driving is the spiritual successor to Burnout and it’s been moving slowly toward its release with new trailers and screenshots. Well, after a long wait the game finally dropped for Xbox One, PS4, and on the Epic Games Store for PC… but it’s not on Steam.
To mark the occasion for the release they dropped a new two and a half minute trailer that covers all the basic game modes for Dangerous Driving, which includes nine different race types, seven different locations to visit, 30 different courses to race across, and 270 miles of road to cross.
Gameplay wise, it’s basically everything you would have expected from a spiritual successor to Burnout. There’s some light vehicular damage on display as players bump, shunt, and crash their way to the finish line.
Players will need to utilize both the environment and civilian traffic as weapons to overcome opponents, just like in Burnout. One really cool feature is that as players begin to wreck other vehicles and destroy other opponents, those metal carcasses will stay on the track, proving to be either helpful or hurtful during your run towards first place.
Outside of the traditional racing mode, there’s also the Pursuit Mode, which is very similar to the Pursuit Mode in the Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit or Most Wanted games. The Elimination Mode is a knockoff race where each lap the person in last place will be eliminated from the race until only one person remains, and the Race GP Mode is designed around racking up as many points as possible to become the GP champion.
The game seems pretty solid based on the footage and vehicle presentation. It does come across as a little bare bones, but it’s a budget based title and it’s to be expected. At least it’s optimized for the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X with UHD support. Of course, the real letdown is the fact that it’s not going to be on Steam right now. I don’t know how they expect to grow a community on the Epic Games Store, but it’s currently available on the digital storefront, along with launching on the PlayStation Store and the Microsoft Store for $29.99.
