Dreams Early Access Launches April 16 On The Cheap

While we still don’t have an official launch date for Media Molecule’s latest creation station, Dreams, we now know that a limited “Creator’s Early Access” version of the game will be available on April 16. If you’ve been eagerly anticipating your chance to get creative on the PlayStation 4, this is an opportunity to do exactly that, at a discount to boot.

When the Early Access version of Dreams goes live, a limited number of people will be able to pick it up for $29.99. While the initial offerings will be more limited than the launch version of the game, participants will gain access to new features as they become available. Also, everything you do in this version of the game will carry over to the final version, and you’ll also unlock all other content at no additional charge when the final version launches.

For those unfamiliar with Dreams, it’s from the team behind LittleBigPlanet, and basically cranks that formula up to 11. Players can create with an insane suite of tools at their disposal, ranging from music and still art to animations and full games. From platformers to first-person shooters, cutesy to horror, the videos demonstrations up to this point cover all of the bases.

While the Early Access version of the game will be limited to an unknown number of participants, the announcement on the PlayStation Blog notes that the cap will be pretty high. Also, there’s no NDA, so players can stream, post videos and share impressions to their heart’s content.

The idea here is that the Early Access community will do a thorough job of putting Dreams through its paces and help Media Molecule fine-tune the game and brainstorm new features. If you’re a creative type, it certainly sounds like an intriguing collaboration opportunity.

This is also super smart on the part of the developer. In the coming months, I expect we’ll see some mind-blowing creations coming out of the Dreams early access, which will only build excitement for the final game.
