Nicalis and 34BigThings announced that the futuristic, Unreal Engine-powered racer, Redout, will be making its debut on the Nintendo Switch starting May 14th. You won’t have to wait long to get your hands on the game since it’ll be available in about two week’s time, and it will launch on the Nintendo eShop as a digital download for $39.99.
Redout: Lightspeed Edition will come with all of the basic gameplay modes and features that were present during the initial release of the game, but it will also come with $40 of additional DLC that was released post-launch for the game on other platforms.
You’ll be able to race across 12 different futuristic locations set in 2560, with a single-player career mode that spans 11 event types and over 200 different events, along with a six-player online multiplayer mode where you can compete against other players if you have a premium subscription to the Nintendo Network.
You can see what the game runs on the Nintendo Switch at 720p and 60fps with the trailer below, courtesy of Rio Gaming.
The full game features 28 different customizable vehicles, along with a number of power-ups and track bonuses to take advantage of while you speed across 60 different course layouts.
Obviously the game doesn’t look like the PC version, but you can tell Nicalis put a lot of time into optimizing the game to take advantage of the Switch’s shader system.
The gameplay on the Switch, though, definitely gave me flashbacks of Star Wars: Episode 1 – Racer. Some of the vehicles definitely look like pod-racers, and the handling and speed seemed somewhat similar to the LucasArts classic.
You can look to get your hands on the game starting May 14th for $39.99. It’s a shame that they don’t mention anything about split-screen support, even though it does have online multiplayer options. Then again, I guess that’s what Fast RMX is for.
