Yakuza Kiwami 2 Steam Pre-Purchases Go Live Ahead Of May 9th Release

The rumors were true. Sega is indeed porting Yakuza Kiwami 2 to PC for Steam users. The official store page opened up and revealed that you can pre-purchase the game for $29.99 ahead of the May 9th, 2019 release date.

Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios’ Yakuza Kiwami 2 originally came out back in late 2017 for the PlayStation 4 in Japan, and it was later localized for release in the West back in August of 2018. After Sega found some solid success with porting over Yakuza games to PC, they began moving over all of the recent titles to Steam, including both Yakuza Kiwami 1 and now Yakuza Kiwami 2.

The store page features a few screenshots and a trailer of some of the things you can expect to encounter in the Japanese beat-’em-up mafia game. You can check out the trailer below, courtesy of Quest Gaming TV.

The game’s irreverent returns along with the high-impact fighting system, the dramatic story, and the characters that most people have grown accustomed to in the franchise.

Those who pre-purchase the game also receive a free clan creator DLC bundle, leader cards, exclusive weapons, outfits, and bonus items. It seems kind of cruel to lock that stuff behind pre-order culture, but sadly this is the world we live in.

A lot of gamers were also worried about Denuvo’s DRM. The crippling anti-tamper software has really put a hamper on the way PC gamers (specifically on Steam) have been able to actually indulge in playing the games due to performance issues, locking up, and other debilitating factors that come with the software. Thankfully, it doesn’t look like Sega included any of the Denuvo DRM to the game’s software package, according to the SteamDB entry.

As noted by some users in the forums, Sega also launched the original Yakuza Kiwami on Steam without Denuvo DRM, and many gamers were very thankful for it. In fact, Sega had the DRM removed a month before release.

You can look for Yakuza Kiwami 2 to land on Steam next month starting May 9th, 2019. For more info you can visit the Steam store page.
