Ghost Recon Breakpoint Announced With Action-Packed Trailer

The follow-up to Ghost Recon Wildlands has finally been revealed, teasing another cooperative firefight on a massive scale as Breakpoint prepares for an early October deployment. To get soldiers ready to enlist, Ubisoft has launched a rather lengthy cinematic reveal trailer.

Just a quick word of warning that series fans might want to work their way through the latest Wildlands update before watching the new Breakpoint trailer. Consider yourself warned for spoilers ahead, which will be touched on in detail following the trailer. So, again, turn back now if you are worried about the series’ plot or whatever.

The tricky thing about a cinematic trailer is that you never know how much of it is directly tied to the game and how much of it is just there for the pretty visuals. Taken at face value, it looks like Breakpoint will boast locations ranging from tropical jungles to frigid mountainsides, and the enemies you face will be packing more high-tech gadgetry than ever before. We’re talking killer drones, transforming tanks and the best weapons money can buy.

As for the game’s story, it’s going to be a direct continuation from Wildlands. That game’s latest update, Operation Oracle, dropped about a week ago and stars Punisher actor Jon Bernthal. That seemed like a pretty big name to simply be dropped in for some DLC and the trailer for the update alone left me thinking, “Okay, this dude’s going to turn out to be a bad guy.”

It turns out that’s exactly correct, as Oracle sets the stage for Breakpoint, which will star Bernthal’s Major Cole D. Walker as the main antagonist. The plot so far feels like it was ripped straight from the Metal Gear playbook, with a former soldier growing weary of being a pawn for a cause he doesn’t agree with, going on to build his own army and equip it with the sweetest gear.

If you pre-order now you can gain access to the upcoming beta. Ghost Recon Breakpoint launches on Oct. 4 for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
