Legendary game developer Koji Igarashi recently unleashed a new trailer for upcoming platforming action title, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, and it includes everything from an official release date for the long-awaited Kickstarter project to a look at the game’s impressive new visual style.
Earning a boatload of cash through crowdfunding four years ago, Bloodstained is currently two years past its original expected launch date. That’s not all that rare for these types of projects and, since his team has been addressing player feedback based on demos throughout that process, the development cycle has taken even longer.
But we don’t have much longer to wait now, as the latest trailer for the game concludes with a June 18 launch date on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, with the Switch version to launch the following week on June 25.
What’s really cool about this newest trailer, though, is that it shows some folks are totally capable of taking criticism. After a brief intro, comments pulled from social media panning the game’s original graphics start popping up on the screen. Iga gives a rather wonderful response, and then shows off the new graphics the team has apparently been sneakily working on behind the scenes.
On top of the new visuals, we get to listen to a new track from the game’s soundtrack, and it’s everything a Castlevania fan could have hoped for. I don’t want to get my hopes up too far, but when you’ve got so many people involved in Symphony of the Night working on this new game, it’s hard to keep that bubbling excitement at a low simmer. Plus, the team at WayForward joined production back in November to help bring Bloodstained across the finish line, and they’ve evolved into masters of the platforming genre over the years.
It’ll be interesting to see how Bloodstained comes together in the end. It’s clear the team has been pouring a lot of effort into the project, so hopefully all of that blood, sweat and tears will pay off big come June.
