Driven Out is a soon-to-be-released video game from the people behind A Bastard’s Tale. Just like their previous game, this one is a 2D action side-scroller. Also like their last game, this one looks like it is going to be one really hard game. I hate to say this but after watching the trailer on YouTube I think this might be the Dark Souls of 2D side-scrollers.
This game is made to look like a 16 Bit classic but plays like a modern action game. In the game you wield a massive sword that is used to attack your enemies. Additionally, you can use the sword to block enemy attacks. According to the developers, you will need to study the attack patterns of your enemies as the protagonist is a simple farm girl and not a seasoned fighter.
This makes her an easily killed target but the game gives you a unique way to mitigate this fact. You see, you are given a magical artifact that allows you create a clone of the main character anywhere you want. This clone acts like a check point, allowing you to continue from wherever you left the device. In order to make this mechanic fair, the device is very fragile and your enemies will attempt to destroy it. It should also be noted that you can’t just put check points down infinitely. You see, the artifact has an energy supply, making it essential that you place checkpoints strategically.
The game has no loot and no character progression. Everything you need to beat the game is given to you from the start. Well, everything except the enemy attack patterns. Driven Out is still not available for purchase but there is a demo out right now, so you can get a taste of the game before you buy by visiting the Steam store page. There is also a discord server so you can talk to others interested in the game.
