Dual Universe Alpha 2 Update Adds Bartering, Volumetric Clouds, And Industrial Mass Production

Novaquark released a new trailer detailing the all new updates and improvements to alpha version 2 for Dual Universe, the galactic-sized space exploration game where you can build, explore, and battle your way across a procedurally dynamic universe.

Some of the new updates includes all new water simulation, wave effects for the water, environmental reflections for liquid simulation, dynamic volumetric cloud effects that you can actually physically travel through, as well as a ton of new gameplay oriented mechanics such as industrial mass production infrastructures and a new player-to-player bartering system.

And speaking of players, an all new player-progression talent tree has been implemented to help gamers improve and upgrade their in-game avatar as they venture across the galaxy. You can check out the new features for alpha 2 with the overview trailer below.

Another neat update for Dual Universe is the virtual projector building assistant. This will allow players to build objects and then virtually project where they will appear and how they will appear in the game world. It’s a much better way to plan out fortress or city layouts rather than just building lots of huge structures and then having to go through the painstaking task of deconstructing them and reconstructing them because they were blocking the path of another building or structure.

So architects and engineers will probably instantly fall in love with the virtual projector feature.

We’re actually seeing some pretty rapid progress with Dual Universe over a rather short amount of time, especially coming off the first major alpha release back in November of 2018, where a lot of the basics were still being implemented and the game was quite innovative but still rough around the edges, as you can see in the alpha 1 trailer below.

So it’s come a long ways in a very short amount of time.

Basically it’s like a mixture of Minecraft and Space Engineers but all taking place in one shard. So you get the fidelity and dynamic physics from Space Engineers but the freedom of Minecraft. What’s not to love about that?

If you’re interested in checking out Dual Universe you can do so right now by heading on over to the official website where the game is still being crowdfunded and going through the alpha-testing phase as it moves through development toward completion.
