Sega and Crypton Future Media announced that a new Hatsune Miku project is in the works and scheduled to release on the Nintendo Switch in 2020. The upcoming musical mega-mix will feature new and old songs alike, along with the vibrant cel-shaded colors that fans have become accustomed to from the Hatsune Miku franchise.
The announcement came via a minute and a half announcement trailer, featuring a look back at the previous games that first made their debut as rhythm titles on gaming platforms back in 2009. Over the years there have been lots of Hatsune Miku games, and now the latest project is being launched on the Nintendo Switch as a 10 year anniversary celebration for the long-running rhythm-game series.
The Sega x Hatsune Miku crossover will feature lots of different game modes and unlockable costumes for the diva, along with a number of classic and new songs, totaling more than 100 songs over the decade of content produced for the series. You can check out the announcement trailer below.
They don’t have time to go over all of the features, but you’ll be able to unlock up to 300 different clothing items for Hatsune Miku, along with an animation viewer so you can scope her out in her digs before taking to the stage.
The game will also include 10 brand new songs specifically for Hatsune Miku Project Diva Mega 39’s.
There will also be a premium DLC update for Hatsune Miku Project Diva Future Tone on the PS4, featuring new content and songs for the home console version of the game based on the new songs from Hatsune Miu Project Diva Mega 39’s.
However, the real big news is that Switch owners will finally be able to play through the music-rhythm title with their own version of the game come 2020. So far no Western release date has been announced, but since the Switch is region free, you’ll still be able to play the game even if they don’t make an English version, you would just have to either switch your account’s region to Japan and download the game from the Nintendo eShop, or import a copy from Play-Asia when 2020 rolls around.
