Hunt: Showdown Release Date Set For August 27th On Xbox One, This Fall On PS4

Crytek and Koch Media announced that they will be releasing Hunt: Showdown this year for both the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4. The Xbox One and PC versions of the game will launch in full, graduating from Early Access on Steam and the Game Preview program on Xbox One to arrive both digitally and on store shelves starting August 27th, 2019, for $39.99.

The PS4 version of the game is also scheduled to launch this year, but no release date has been set yet. It, too, will have a physical and digital release sometime this fall.

Since entering into Early Access back in February of 2018, Crytek has slowly rolled out new updates for the game moving toward the eventual graduation for a full release. They’ve added a brand new map, a new boss, two new times of day, AI improvements, map improvements, a new quick play feature, more than a dozen new weapons, and 20 new updates and optimization patches.

The game looks pretty cool and also has a unique premise, insofar that the game is a PvPvE game where players will load into a large-scale map, attempt to find clues as to the whereabouts of the boss, and then track down and kill the boss, acquire the loot, and then attempt to make a run to the exit.

While that might sound simple, there are zombies, monsters, traps, and other ghouls, ghosts, and creatures that occupy the map, not to mention other players looking to hunt down and kill the boss for themselves and snatch the loot for their team.

I just wish there was an actual campaign mode attached to the game, similar to Brink. It could have made it feel a lot more immersive than the standard mission-oriented deathmatch.

Maybe if the game does well enough we’ll see a proper story campaign? One can hope.
