Vantan Game Academy and Undefeated Games have announced that their open-world super hero title, Undefeated, will be launching on the Steam store starting August 2nd. The Unreal Engine 4-powered title has been previewed briefly by some YouTubers a few months ago, giving gamers an idea of how the controls work, what sort of powers you’ll have at your disposal, and the obvious Superman-esque archetype that will give players plenty to do in the expansive world.
The game is essentially Superman 64 made in the Unreal Engine 4. You can fly around, ground-pound, run super fast, knock guys out of the screen with powerful punches, and throw objects great distances.
Undefeated takes place in an open-world with a wide variety of missions and side-activities… just like Superman 64. Back in May there was a near 45 minute gameplay preview posted up on the YouTube channel Jo3yization. You can check it out below.
In a way the game seems to mirror the mechanical functionality of the Dragon Ball Xenoverse games, where you fly around, run fast, and blow things up with powerful strikes. However, it lacks all of the nuance, martial arts, and challenge of the Dragon Ball Xenoverse titles, so it’s basically just a destruction sim for the most part.
Actually, the more you look at the gameplay it also reminds me of the poor super hero elements of Saints Row 4, where you ran and flew around, blowing things up and mindlessly attacking enemies until you got bored and decided to play a better game.
Anyway, there are a bunch of Unreal Engine 4 stock assets used, including some of the enemy robots from a previous update demonstration, along with the inclusion of challenge quests and boss fights.
Now to be fair, this is a project that was designed by three students out of Osaka, Japan. So the fact that I’m comparing their little UE4 prototype with AAA games speaks really ill of those AAA games.
If you’re interested in checking out Undefeated, which is basically asset store Superman, you can do so by visiting the Steam store page, where the game is prepping to release on August 2nd.
