Driven Arts has been working night and day on their World War II multiplayer PvP shooter, Days of War. The indie game is designed to bring gamers a slice of the conflict from across 12 different maps designed to replicate the chaos and carnage that took place around the globe. The developers have managed to complete enough of the content to confidently proclaim that Days of War will be released in early 2020 as it graduates from Steam’s Early Access.
Originally the game was put into Early Access two years ago, back in late January of 2017. The PvP game launched some some basic modes and features, but over the course of time the Canadian developers at Driven Arts managed to fix up some of the bugs, balance out the 32-player firefights, and add in different factions and guns.
At launch, they plan to have 60 different guns, refined matchmaking with multiplayer bots for offline and online play, as well as modding support with integrated Steam Workshop content. To help give gamers an idea of what to expect from the game, a brand new gameplay trailer was released, which you can check out below.
The trailer actually looks pretty slick.
There’s a lot of fast-paced, run-and-gun action, with time-to-kill being rather minimum. It looks intense and like you get the instant gratification of hard-boiled, no-holds-barred PvP action.
And the best part about it? It doesn’t look like Graffiti Games nor Driven Arts have converged their title to the “diversity” agenda. That’s a huge plus.
Lee Snodgrass, co-founder of Driven Arts, mentioned in the press release…
“We set out with a vision for what we wanted in a PC shooter but its only been through engagement with our community and a lot of time and hard work that we are where we’re at today. Early Access showed us the enormous potential in Days of War and helped us identify the thousands of little things that make a fast paced competitive shooter feel rewarding and fun to play. We want to thank everyone who’s been waiting for Days of War for their patience, and we’re confident they’re going to enjoy the final product”
Take note, however, that the game currently has a mixed rating over on the Steam store page.
So what’s the biggest issue?
It’s dead.
Multiplayer isn’t populated and due to that a lot of people have given up on the game. This is always an issue with indie-made multiplayer games. Usually this is why it’s best to focus on a single-player component so people have something to sink their teeth into even if the multiplayer servers are dead.
Also keep in mind that as an indie game, unless you’re receiving regular coverage from the media or a lot of content from YouTubers producing Let’s Play videos, you’re not going to be gaining a large influx of users frequently. So that’s always something to keep in mind when making a multiplayer-focused indie game. Heck, even AAA titles can suffer the same fate… just like at Apex Legends as a perfect example of that.
Anyway, Days of War is currently available for $24.99 right now. If you don’t mind hip-firing, PvP action with offline bot support, you can check it out or wait for it to graduate from Early Access in 2020.
