Russian developer Ellada Games released on Steam back in September of 2018. The developers have been working around the clock to update game’s content as well as prep for a home console release. Well, as of September 20th, 2019, you can currently pick up a digital copy of Niffelheim for the Xbox One, PS4, or the Nintendo Switch.
While it’s classified as a survival game, it’s a lot different from the other titles out there. Andrey Arutyunyan, Co-Founder of Ellada Games, explained briefly in the press release what separates Niffelheim from the rest of the herd, saying…
“Niffelheim is a game that combines crafting, survival, and combat, and it allows players to enjoy each element on its own, or as part of a greater whole. It’s the kind of experience lets you truly play it the way you like, and we can’t wait to introduce players to our dark Viking fable.”
Players take on the role of a Viking warrior seeking to gather riches, brandish fame, and wield weapons to claim the heads of his greatest foes, all so that he may carve out a pedestal in the ancient halls of Valhalla.
It’s up to players to make that dream into a reality.
The core of the gameplay starts with resource gathering. As a lone Viking warrior you’ll need to hunt to gather food and nourishment.
You’ll need to build up your abode using sticks, stones, and mortar. Embellish your home with walls and fortifications, and then go hunting to extend the legacy of your name.
What really helps envelop players into the world of Niffelheim is that you’re able to team up with another player and raid dungeons in co-op.
You’ll need to gather higher end weaponry to take down bosses, and eventually cement your name in the annals of Nordic history.
I’m not a big fan of the Flash animations, but I do respect Ellada’s very distinct art-style in how the characters are made, the environments are constructed, and the attention to detail with things like giant bear carcasses and monstrous skulls working as entrances to some of the dungeons.
You can pluck a copy of this side-scrolling survival title paying homage to Norse mythology by heading on over to the Steam store page where Niffelheim is available for $19.99. Alternatively you can grab a copy from the Nintendo eShop, the PlayStation Store, or the Xbox Store for the Switch, PS4, or Xbox One.
