Eko Software and Bigben Interactive released a new trailer for the upcoming Rugby 20 on the Xbox One and PS4 as part of their pre-order campaign to advertise the closed beta test for new sports title.
Anyone who pre-orders Rugby 20 for the Xbox One or the PS4 gains instant access to the closed beta, enabling them to play-test some of the features and content ahead of its release on January 23rd, 2020 for the Xbox One, PS4, and PC. Sadly, though, PC gamers will not be able to participate in the closed beta test.
Gamers who pre-order now will be able to participate in the ongoing closed beta, which will run all the way up until October 17th. You can check out the trailer below to get an idea of what the visuals and gameplay are like.
As you can see, Rugby 20 is a real man’s sport. It takes the basic concepts of American football but gets rid of all the padding and nanny-tier rules, and goes all in on a hardcore, flesh-on-flesh, roughshod experience in the full contact sport.
I’m not entirely sure why they decided to plaster rap music all over the trailer, but the gameplay at least looks solid based on what’s been presented in the trailer. It could be amazing or it could go all south, I’m sure gamers who are participating in the CBT will let everyone know sooner or later whether it’s worth the price of admission or not.
Eko Software has a history of making rugby titles, as well as having recently worked with Bigben on the Warhammer: Chaosbane outing. Quality seems to be spotty over their catalog of outings, but maybe they’re like Milestone and will improve with each new release?
Anyway, the full game will feature 20 national teams from different countries, an international tournament mode, quick matches against the AI or another human player, as well as an online multiplayer mode with both friend support or online matchmaking.
You can learn more about the game by visiting the official Facebook page, or you can keep an eye on Rugby 20 when it preps for release in January next year.
