Sega released some new trailers for Yakuza 7 at this year’s Tokyo Game Show. The first trailer features the official English localization, which is due to be made available in 2020. Ryu Ga Totoku Studio’s upcoming title diverts from the traditional series insofar that there’s a new protagonist, a new story, and an all new combat system.

The trailer follows a young upstart named Ichi, who had found himself indebted to his boss and tasked with taking the place of another Yakuza member who was guilty of murder. The boss couldn’t afford to have the member do prison time, so he requested Ichi to take his place. Ichi gleefully accepted, wanting to finally repay his debt to his boss.

Once you get caught up on the story involving Ichiban, there’s a second trailer that was released during the Tokyo Game Show that also highlights some of the new content and characters you’ll encounter along the way.

The beginning of the trailer covers the new turn-based combat mechanics, revealing that players will take turns assigning offensive and defensive tactics to each of the characters in their party.

Unlike the previous Yakuza games where you freely run around and beat the mess out of other characters, this time around you play through the battle sequences like a traditional turn-based JRPG.

There’s also environmental hazards you can make use of to deal extra damage, including knocking enemies through windows, tossing them into a busy street, or using nearby weapons.

The combat system also allows you to change your styles, like in previous entries. Different styles come with different clothing attire, buffs, and weaknesses, along with different movesets.

The near four minute trailer was posted up by Gematsu, featuring all new footage from Yakuza: Like A Dragon, which you can check out below.

Mini-games, side-activites, and extra jobs are also featured in Yakuza: Like A Dragon galore, so you can earn additional funds to buy new gear or upgrade the characters in a variety of ways.

One of the coolest new features in the game is the Yokohama Dragon Cart mini-game, which is basically like Mario Kart but in Yakuza.

A number of Sega Sammy’s real life casino games are also going to be present in the entertainment district, along with karaoke, and the return of hostess clubs.

Classic Sega arcade games like Virtua Fighter, Super Hang-On and Outrun are also included in the game.

It looks like Yakuza 7 or Yakuza: Like A Dragon will be fully featured game jam-packed to the brim with content. You can look for the game to launch initially for the PS4, but expect a Steam release to follow thereafter.
