War Selection Enters Early Access On Steam, Features 62-Player RTS Battles

Glyph Worlds announced that their free-to-play RTS game, War Selection is currently available for play over on the Steam store in Early Access. The RTS PvE-PvP title boasts an impressive 62-player multiplayer mode where everyone is vying to control the land.

Glyph Worlds came up with their own game engine for War Selection to bring it to life calle the GlyphEngine. It’s designed from the ground up to support making MOBA and real-time strategy games.

Roman Budkeev, CEO of Glyph Worlds, commented in the press release saying…

“We can’t wait to see the community build up around War Selection. We hope to create a close-knit fanbase of players through our ability to host matches of such an incredible size. We’re very proud of our ability to have 62 players simultaneously fighting in an RTS and look forward to observing the tactics, strategies, and politics that come about in our game.”

You can see what the gameplay is like with the trailer below.

The game’s premise is actually quite interesting. You choose your nation at the start of the game, and work your way through eight epochs, starting with the stone age.

You can move your people around and also change what their culture is during each age. So this adds some variety to the way the game plays out.

As your culture progresses and evolves, you begin to see how the higher cultures advance through each era, with a change in buildings, weapons, armies, and resources.

Eventually you’ll be able to select from 13 different countries during the industrial age – picking only from those that advanced enough to qualify for evolution.

In Sandbox Mode there are no enemies, and it’s just about building up your civilization and allowing your people to flourish and grow. Survival Mode is about surviving against hordes of enemies on a map, while Free-for-All and Team Match are PvP modes.

One of the more exciting modes in the line-up is the Armageddon Mode, where small villages will be hit with meteorites, and the last surviving village is the winner.

While the base game is free-to-play there are some people saying that the way the monetization system is setup that it makes for pay-to-win gaming. War Selection is still in Early Access so there’s time to gather feedback and make the appropriate changes, assuming that’s what Glyph Worlds is aiming to do.

Many gamers see it as a spiritual successor to Empire Earth, so there’s already a built-in fanbase who could support the title if they do right by the community. The game is scheduled to graduate from Early Access as soon as the full Campaign Mode is finished, but there’s no release window on when that will be.
