It’s very rare that a popular game gets a free update. It’s even more rare that the free update includes an entirely new gameplay mode that adds tons of replayability to the game. Well, Invader Studios decided to defy expectations and released the new H.A.D.E.S. Dead End mode for Daymare: 1998.
The new update with the free game mode is available right now for everyone who owns a legitimate copy of Daymare: 1998. Invader Studios announced the availability with a brand new trailer, which you can check out below.
So the gimmick for the mode is that you have to destroy or retrieve several items and complete your objective before time runs out. Sounds simple, eh? Well, you have limited supplies and a lot of enemies waiting for you.
In order to survive the madness you’ll need to kill the zombies to add to your overall time and keep extending it until you complete the objectives. It’s a little bit like the Mercenary Modes from Resident Evil, but with the added mission tasks to make things spicier.
The game originally came out back in mid-September, filling a void after gamers were done completing Resident Evil 2 Remake. While Daymare 1998 obviously lacked the production values of Capcom’s outing, it did contain the basic gameplay loops and mechanics to give gamers a slice of the B-movie style survival-horror experience.
It’s not the best game around, but the handling and shooting mechanics are solid, and the overall atmosphere and level design is reminiscent of the classic survival titles from the late 1990s, hence the name. You played multiple characters throughout Daymare: 1998, and the story was somewhat unpredictable.
If you were interested in getting your hands on Daymare: 1998, you can do so by either picking up a digital copy from Steam or from GOG.com.
