Dark Gravity, Japanese-Inspired SHMUP Announced For PC, Nintendo Switch

Scheduled to release in the fourth quarter of 2020, Polish studio Korgorus and publisher Ultimate Games S.A., announced that the Japanese-inspired 3D shoot-’em-up, Dark Gravity, is headed to the Nintendo Switch and on Steam for PC.

The game is a low-poly, SMHUP that in some ways reminds me a little bit of if Star Fox was a vertical scroller instead of a 3D shooter.

Players will have to fly through a variety of levels, taking on swarms of enemies, dodging unfathomable amounts of enemy fire, and facing off against larger than life bosses.

You can give the trailer a look-see below to get an idea of what the gameplay is like.

The game features a ton of different weapons to collect, three different difficulty settings to overcome, the ability to gather and craft jets, as well as 34 different bosses to conquer.

Now let’s talk a little bit about the good and the bad.

The good is that the game has a really stylish look. The low-poly throwback to Sega Saturn or Sega Model 3 era of games. I like that there’s a wide variety of different weapons and cool looking specials to use in order to take down countless foes.

The bad part is that the speed isn’t quite up to scratch to most other traditional Japanese SMHUPs. Many 3D titles suffer from this kind of setback compared to their sprite-oriented or pre-rendered counterparts.

Of course, the game is still a long ways off from release and it’s very much possible that Korgorus could very well improve on the speed of the gameplay and the reaction of the player-ship ahead of release.

You can wishlist Dark Gravity right now over on the Steam store page or look for it to arrive on the Nintendo eShop for the Nintendo Switch in the late fourth quarter of 2020.
