Rayark Games released a new teaser trailer for the upcoming Deemo II release, a sequel to the 2017 mobile game of the same name. The teaser trailer for Deemo II is completely unlike the first game, though. While it still seems to be themed around the music-rhythm genre and a child encountering the mystical figure, the setting appears to be themed around late 19th century Europe.
The original game followed a little girl and her journey through Deemo’s world after losing her memory and not knowing who she was. The second game appears to follow the journeys of a young boy who ventures to a train station that looks very much like London, England.
You can check out the teaser below.
The teaser is a minute long, starts with a few undecipherable scenarios, and then eventually reveals that there’s a train station and a little boy racing toward its location, with some very impressive old-school animation on display.
The final scene sees a giant monolith behind the station raising up out of the ground, as the boy moves toward its location.
There’s a definite upgrade over the original Deemo, where the story unfolded with still picture scenes and the rest of the game was played through a lo-fi music-rhythm board. Majority of the music was based around Japanese and Taiwanese classical piano music. This time around it looks like the aesthetics have undergone a massive upgrade.
I was kind of interested in seeing how the visuals connected with the actual gameplay, but it looks like we’ll have to wait for that.
Also, given the obvious bump in production values I wonder if the sequel will still find its way to mobile devices or if it will be a multiplatform release?
The original Deemo did release on the Nintendo Switch in late 2017, so it’s not unlikely that they could release Deemo II on both mobile devices and the Switch.
Deemo II definitely reminds me of a classically made Japanese anime, before the moe took over.
If the actual gameplay is as enticing as the teaser trailer, it might be a music-rhythm worth keeping an eye on.
