The Boys Season 2 Teaser Trailer Trades Story For Gore, Gore, And More Gore

Amazon Prime Video took a different approach to teasing the second season of The Boys, the original series based on the gory comic book series from Garth Ennis. The trailer is filled to the brim with violence and gore, instead of trying to convince people that there’s a coherent story that they should follow.

It’s an interesting direction to take for a teaser trailer because everyone who didn’t see the first season will be hit with a lot of… evocative imagery for the teaser trailer promoting the second season.

It starts with Homelander descending from the sky, just out of focus, landing with what looks like splats of gore all over his face. From there, it gets rowdy… real rowdy. You can check out the trailer below courtesy of Rapid Trailer.

A large portion of the trailer centers around Black Noir dispensing lots of violence, including what looks like performing a Mortal Kombat-inspired Fatality on a man strapped to chair by ripping his head open from his jaw.

We see a security guard at a corrections facility with the top part of his head missing; we see a glimpse of carnage taking place in a school room with kids slipping on large puddles of blood after someone encountered an untimely fate; we also see various other scenes that includes only splats of blood painting walls and being sprayed indiscriminately from victims who were just out of frame.

Most interesting in the trailer is that we see Billy Butcher going one-on-one with Black Noir using a crowbar. This didn’t happen until near the end of the series, and it wasn’t much of a fight at all. This makes me wonder if the fight in the room from the teaser trailer is actually from when Black Noir violently dispenses another hero in the White House, and Amazon is speeding up storytelling to reach the outcome of that arc?

If that’s the case then it means the third season will be all about Billy, and would probably mark the end of the series. But we’ll see.

They definitely changed a lot of the story around, though, making Billy a cuckold by keeping his wife alive and having Homelander have a son with her, and they also tried making A-Train far more sympathetic than he should have been because they race-swapped him by turning him black. If you’re not into “progressive” changes like that, then this is a series you need to steer clear from.

For now you can look for The Boys to have its second season air at some point in 2020.
