Destiny 2’s Stadia Playerbase Drops By 58% A Month After Release

The playerbase for Destiny 2 on the Google Stadia gives us a pretty good idea of what the general user statistics are like for the new streaming service, which only just recently launched back in November of 2019. Some new stats have surfaced and it doesn’t look good for Stadia.

Paul Tassi from Forbes did an article comparing the numbers between platforms, and had to admit that while Destiny 2 is no longer the big bad kid on the block, it still has consistently impressive numbers on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Stadia? Not so much.

Forbes grabbed the figures from Warmind, which outlined what the playerbase was like during the launch month in November, and what the figures looked like a month later.

The November, 2019 figures per platform are below:

  • PC: 494,000
  • PS4: 454,000
  • Xbox: 331,000
  • Stadia: 19,400

The December, 2019 figures per platform are below:

  • PC: 437,000
  • PS4: 435,000
  • Xbox: 313,000
  • Stadia: 8,020

As noted by Forbes, there’s been a 58.7% drop in active players on the Stadia, whereas the drop on the PS4 and Xbox One were absolutely nowhere near the same level when it came to drop-off rates.

The PS4 saw a 4.2% drop-off from November to December, whereas the Xbox One only saw a 4% drop-off rate from November to December.

Resident drama reporter YongYea was quick to report on the news, pointing out that if you round off the numbers, it’s closer to a 60% drop-off.

It’s pretty obvious that the Stadia isn’t doing so hot, but that shouldn’t be much of a surprise given that the lead-up to the launch was an absolute clown show.

It looks like barely anyone is even playing it anyway, and it’s doubtful that those numbers will rebound anytime soon, if at all, especially since the current infrastructure just isn’t very accommodating toward game streaming.

I’m not going to mince words or or employ euphemisms for the situation: I’m glad Google is suffering, and hopefully this is a lesson to other companies out there to leave the anti-consumer nonsense on the table where it belongs.
