Residence of Evil Reveals Classic Survival-Horror Game Vigil

Since 2013 Residence of Evil has been covering all things Resident Evil. 2017 saw the release of their YouTube channel where they dutifully covered any and all Resident Evil news, along with other survivor horror titles. With so much experience under their belt, they are perfectly equipped to tackle the classical Resident Evil formula with their own game Vigil.

Featuring fixed cameras, limited resources, and naturally puzzles, Vigil will see players exploring a mysterious forest which is not to be confused with the magical woods or the Logan Paul Experience Forest. Situated in the middle of the forest, RO3 squad will locate the abandoned in the middle of nowhere Beechworth Manor. Initially believed to be a safe haven it soon unravels into a den of horrors and monstrosities.

If the concept piques your interest then a free demo is available from the developer’s website.

Outside the scant details available in the trailer and postings on social media, not much else has been revealed about the project. Central to its design is returning players to a classical Resident Evil experience that has largely been replaced with various degrees of action-horror in modern “horror” games.

With the resurgence of fixed cameras and limited resource management, it wouldn’t be a surprise if this, in turn, influenced the industry in the same manner the original Outlast did in resurrecting the survival-horror genre. At the very least with the trend growing it shouldn’t be a surprise if at the very least fixed cameras became an option in future Resident Evil titles.

The warped and twisted female character seen in the trailer and above concept art is known as the Abbess. Advertised as elusive and mysterious, she will be pivotal to the location and the plot. Not to mention will be featured in loads of fan art if the project successfully delivers the classic experience it promises.
