Rumor: LucasFilm Is Trying To Bring George Lucas Back on As a Producer

There’s no denying at this point the Rise of Skywalker has been an absolute failure. With classic and new fans absolutely hating the production and the 59% decline in week-over-week box office intake, it will be a miracle if the movie even breaks even at this junction, especially after taxation.

Were it not for the contents of the movie absolutely destroying the Skywalker lineage and angering Reylo Fans, Disney would have far less to concern themselves with. As it stands with approval of Star Wars in the gutter from the inept decisions that plagued Rise of Skywalker any long term marketability the series has is effectively dead.

In short, so long as the Kennedy Verse remains canon Disney cannot market Star Wars. It will forever have the stink of Palpatine returning and triumphing not in any philosophical or meticulously planned manner, but to have Rey be the bestest ever while baiting fans back to the theater with nostalgia.

If investors were concerned before over how Star Wars was being handled, they’re going to be livid now. Yet if a leak from We Got This Covered is to be believed, the Iger administration is attempting to bring George Lucas back as an executive produce at Lucas Film.

Details were sparse with no hows or whys being provided, but the gist is simply Lucas would return with creative control in a non directorial capacity. They want him to work with Feige and help steer the franchise back on track.

Frankly while the source told them that, it is more likely they want him back to appease investors. Nothing short of bringing George Lucas back will inspire any fan or investor confidence in the Star Wars brand going forward. Whether Lucas will return or not is another question.

Iger famously boasted how deceived Lucas felt and had created bad blood between him and Lucas. Kennedy outright betrayed him to push a feminist agenda with Star Wars that she conceived with Iger behind Lucas’s back with JJ Abrams involved. Then after he came back for fans and produced a cut of Rise of Skywalker that salvaged their train wreck and tested well with audiences they elected to use the JJ/Iger Cut instead.

Lucas has no incentive to return to stewarding Star Wars and inheriting Kennedy and Iger’s mess. With all the bad blood circulating between Lucas and the administration of Disney and Lucas Fims these negotiations will be very interesting if we ever have them leak out and with sources close to Midnight’s Edge and Doomcock it is almost a guarantee they will.
