I understand that a lot of fans of sports games have tuned out of the genre after companies like 2K Games and Electronic Arts forced fans into anagapesis for the genre due to all the microtransaction shenanigans in games like NBA 2K and gambling-style antics with the whole FIFA Ultimate Team scams, but Bigben Interactive’s NACON and Big Ant Studios are hoping to settle down the fiery tempers and bring an anodyne experience to sport fans looking for a game that simply gives them fun and entertainment for the price of entry.
AO Tennis 2 is hoping to be that game, and it’s currently available for the Xbox One, PS4 and Nintendo Switch. The game launched last month for PC on January 9th, 2020.
The game is available for just $49.99. The PC reviews are already quote positive over on the Steam store, with gamers having a love-hate relationship with some elements of the title. Specifically they like the graphics and customization, but hate the “lottery” style hit detection for the ball/racket, and the sometimes perfect AI.
Couple some of these problems with a few people complaining about the game failing to properly detect the controller, along with some long load times on PC.
Now these aren’t terrible things to have problems with because most of these can be addressed with a few patches.
Again, not everyone is having the same problem, but for those who find it too difficult, Big Ant could make some adjustments there, and the controller issue should definitely be addressed for PC. The good part is that this shouldn’t be a problem on home consoles since you’re only going to be playing with controllers.
It remains to be seen if the hit-detection issue on PC is also an issue on consoles since the game just launched, but hopefully Big Ant already patched it in preparation for the release.
From the sound of it, AO Tennis 2 doesn’t have game-breaking bugs, but there are a few things that still need to be ironed out on Big Ant’s end.
It might be wise to wait for reviews for the game on home consoles before diving in, or checking out a few Let’s Play videos to see how it handles and what the performance is like on your console of choice.
