Chaos Code NEXT Canceled

FK Digital announced that their once upcoming fighting game, Chaos Code NEXT, has been canceled due to ongoing circumstances. The details of those circumstances were left vague, but they made it clear in the official statement that they were sorry for all the fans disappointed with the news.

The announcement came via a tweet on February 9th, 2020, where FK Digital informed fans that Chaos Code NEXT’s development has been discontinued.

The tweet links to a Google Drive document where they explained that even though Chaos Code NEXT was recently announced, development on the game has been brought to cessation.

The Chaos Code games were traditionally made 2D fighters, and the previous game before Chaos Code NEXT was Chaos Code: New Sign of Catastrophe, which landed on PC and PS4 back in early 2017, with Arc System Works having published the title.

The game was notable insofar that it was one of the few fighting games to utilize high-quality hand-drawn sprites and also retain a selection of hot waifus. You can get a glimpse of what FK Digital was working on with the gameplay trailer below.

It’s a real shame because we seem to have fewer and fewer fighting games each new generation. Franchises that used to be around no longer are, such as Virtua Fighter, and franchises that are still around continue to find ways to undermine their own audience and themes, such as Dead or Alive, and now one of the few original fighting games hearkening back to the classic days of 2D fisticuffs is being hung up on the rack of cancellation.

It’s a real shame.

Press ‘F’ to pay respects.
