Double Dragon And Kunio-kun Retro Brawler Bundle Contains 18 Games For Switch, PS4

Arc System Works announced that a brand new bundle pack containing 18 games spread across the Double Dragon and Kunio-kun series (better known as River City Ransom in the West and Nekketsu in the East) is currently available right now for the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.

11 of the 18 games featured in the bundle have never been localized in English for home consoles, so for a lot of people this will be the first time they get to play these games.

The complete bundle of games is listed below:

  • DOUBLE DRAGON series
  • DOUBLE DRAGON (1987)
  • DOUBLE DRAGON II: The Revenge (1988)
  • DOUBLE DRAGON III: The Sacred Stones (1990)

  • Kunio-kun series
  • Renegade (1986)
  • Super Dodge Ball (1988)
  • River City Ransom (1989)
  • Crash’n the Boys Street Challenge (1992)

  • Kunio-kun series (Published only in Japan, first time localized in NA)
  • Nekketsu Renegade Kunio-kun
  • Nekketsu High School Dodgeball Club
  • Downtown Nekketsu Story
  • Nekketsu High School Dodgeball Club – Soccer Story
  • Downtown Nekketsu March Super-Awesome Field Day!
  • Downtown Special Kunio-kun’s Historical Period Drama!
  • Go-Go! Nekketsu Hockey Club Slip-and-Slide Madness
  • Surprise! Nekketsu New Records! The Distant Gold Medal
  • Nekketsu Fighting Legend
  • Kunio-kun’s Nekketsu Soccer League
  • Nekketsu! Street Basketball All-Out Dunk Heroes

There’s a “Quality Up” feature as well, where you can switch between the original or the refined versions of each game that modified the game balance and removed all the bugs and glitches.

They also released a trailer containing all of the games, giving you a glimpse at how they look and play.

I have to be completely honest… I’m not that thrilled.

The Double Dragon and Nekketsu games were fun when they were the only notable kids on the block, but they didn’t get really memorable until their SNES outings. If the bundle at least included Super Double Dragon or Shodai Nekketsu Kōha then that would be a completely different story. Heck, Shin Nekketsu Kōha Kunio-kun would have been a perfect addition, too.

Hopefully Arc System Works considers doing an SNES bundle pack of the Double Dragon and Kunio-kun series, because I would absolutely purchase that bundle for the Nintendo Switch in a heartbeat. I don’t know how many times I’ve replayed Shodai, but it’s easily one of the best beat-’em-ups around. Super Double Dragon is also an unforgettable experience, and it would be awesome to play that on the newer hardware.

Anyway, you can pick up the bundle pack of classic NES titles featuring Double Dragon and Nekketsu for the Switch via the Nintendo eShop or for the PS4 via the PlayStation Store. For more information on the bundle, feel free to visit the official website.
