Eli Roth To Direct Borderlands Movie Adaptation For Lionsgate

It looks Eli Roth has another movie in the works. However, this time it’s not a horror film but an action picture. Roth and Lionsgate are working on a movie adaptation of 2K and Gearbox’s first-person “shooter-looter,” which currently has no release date.

In case you are unaware of Roth’s work, you can check out some of the films he’s worked on right here:

  • Cabin Fever (2002)
  • Hostel (2005)
  • Hostel: Part 2 (2007)
  • Grindhouse: Thanksgiving (2007)
  • Inglorious Bastards: Nation’s Pride (2009)
  • Aftershock (2012)
  • The Man with the Iron Fists (2012)
  • The Green Inferno (2013)
  • Knock Knock (2015)
  • Cabin Fever (2016)
  • Death Wish (2018)
  • The House with a Clock in Its Walls (2018)

As seen above, the film director, producer, writer, and actor is closely associated with the horror genre but has branched out on a few occasions, and it looks like he might be heading up the action genre as of now.

Website hollywoodreporter.com reports that the Cabin Fever and Hostel director is set to direct the movie adaptation of Borderlands for Lionsgate, while the Emmy-winning screenwriter Craig Mazin has the script covered.

The video game movie will be produced by Avi Arad and Ari Arad through their Arad Productions banner, while Erik Feig will oversee development through Picturestart.

I should also note that Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford and Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick will be the executive producers for this Borderlands film.

Although the executive producers haven’t said anything as of late, Nathan Kahane, president of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, had this to say as per the publication site:

“With Eli’s vision and Craig’s screenplay, we believe we have cracked the code on bringing the anarchic world of Borderlands to the big screen in a big way that will be a fresh, compelling and cinematic event for moviegoers and fans of the game.”

After Kahane brought up Roth, here’s what the director had to say about the forthcoming project:

“I’m so excited to dive into the world of Borderlands, and I could not be doing it with a better script, producing team and studio. I have a long, successful history with Lionsgate — I feel like we have grown up together and that everything in my directing career has led to a project of this scale and ambition.”

As of now, no word on a release date has surfaced. However, are you looking forward to this movie adaptation of Borderlands?
