There’s a new third-person adventure title in the works from miHoYo called Genshin Impact. The Chinese-developed title hasn’t seen a lot of coverage since its initial announcement, but it was part of Sony’s Tokyo Game Show line-up last year. This year, however, miHoYo brought the game to PAX East in Boston, Massachusetts, giving gamers a firsthand look at the open-world adventure title featuring hot waifus and breathtaking visuals.
There was nearly 13 minutes of raw gameplay footage on display at PAX East, where gamers were given a firsthand look at some of the combat, exploration, item management, and crafting.
If you’re into open-air concepts with a zen atmosphere then you’ll probably definitely like what miHoYo is doing with Genshin Impact.
DSO Gaming spotted the new preview video and you can check out the gameplay for yourself, courtesy of IGN Japan.
The video starts with a part of the four characters making their way around an idyllic countryside. There are a lot more than four playable characters in the game, but you can only bring four party members with you at a time onto the field.
You only play one charatcer at a time but you can easily select from all four party members with the simple press of a button.
After collecting items from chests and breaking some rocks, the quartet of adventurers encounter some enemies along the road. The combat takes place in real-time, where players can hack, slash and use magical projectile attacks on enemies.
As you gather supplies and ingredients sprinkled around the game world, you’ll be able to use the items to cook various types of food, which you can then use to eat to restore health or add buffs to the characters.
The game isn’t just inspired by The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, it directly lifts various features from the game. The enemy goblins are oftentimes spaced out around the world exactly the way they are in Breath of the Wild, and the interactive battle music is also very similar to the Nintendo exclusive’s upbeat yet solemn symphonic suite, kicking in only when combat is initiated.
I will admit that I like the interactive battle music better in Genshin Impact than in Breath of the Wild.
Many other features from the Switch adventure title also make an appearance in the Unity-made RPG. For instance one of the characters has the ability to initiate ice attacks. These attacks can be used to freeze the water to create pathways that will allow you to reach new areas.
The stamina-based climbing feature and gliding from Breath of the Wild also make an appearance in Genshin Impact.
It leaves me wondering if Nintendo will see it as flattery or infringement?
The game is scheduled to release on PC, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and mobile devices. For more info feel free to visit the official website.
