We’ve reported on PlatinumGames wanting to self-publish on multiple occasions. Well, it looks like the company now being backed by Tencent will explore that route with the 2013 Wii U game The Wonderful 101 via a remaster on Kickstarter named The Wonderful 101: Remastered.
Yes, folks that enjoy gaming on PC, PS4, and Switch can look forward to trying out one of the company’s most “largest and ambitious titles” if you’ve never had a go with the Wii U version.
Despite Phil Spencer trying to bolster the Xbox One family of consoles with more Asian and Japanese games, it looks like PlatinumGames isn’t trying to capture the Xbox userbase with this remaster, as evident on the game’s Kickstarter page:
“Why is The Wonderful 101: Remastered only being released on Switch, PlayStation 4, and Steam?
Of course, we absolutely want to release The Wonderful 101: Remastered on platforms other than Nintendo Switch, Steam, and PS4 so that fans everywhere can play, but this is a challenging endeavor for our first foray into self-publishing. That’s why we wanted to concentrate on these three initial hardware platforms.
However, we are absolutely listening, and if this campaign is successful enough to allow us the flexibility to port the game on additional platforms, we’d love to make it happen.”
While Xbox One players are left in the dark, for now, folks looking to support The Wonderful 101: Remastered on PC, PS4 or Switch can see what PlatinumGames has in store by watching the latest Kickstarter announcement video:
Moreover, The Wonderful 101: Remastered will sport several refinements and user-friendly changes like improvements to on-screen prompts, sub-menu arrangements, info pop-ups, and gameplay adjustments for different consoles.
In addition to the above, if stretch goals are met, new modes will be added to the game — which will be free to all backers.
As of this writing, the game has surpassed its $50,000 goal. Right now, the PC, PS4, and Switch funding goals have been met. And lastly, you can learn more about The Wonderful 101: Remastered by hitting up its official Kickstarter page.
