Bandai Namco announced that Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme Vs. Maxiboost On will be making headway to the West starting July 30th. The game will be released on the PS4 only, sadly. However, ahead of the release they have plans on conducting a closed beta test in April for select gamers.
The game is a 2-on-2 mecha fighting game, allowing one through four players to do battle in PvP combat selecting from up to 185 playable mechs spanning 36 different iterations of the highly popular and very beloved Gundam franchise.
You can get a glimpse of what the gameplay is like with the trailer below.
VSTG Project’s PvP battle game is a little bit like a tag-team version of Sega’s Project On. Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme Vs Maxiboost On originally released for Japanese arcades, but was popular enough to warrant a release on home consoles in the West.
The game features three different weapons per Gundam, and three different Burst systems to utilize, including a Fighting Burst that consists of multiple melee attacks to break through an opponent’s guard; a Shooting Burst that peppers enemies with a barrage of long-range fire; and an Extended Burst, which basically works as a combo-breaker to give you a quick damage output against opponents who are beating you down.
New Modes, New Mechs, And Split-Screen
In addition to the team battle modes, there’s also a Maxi Boost Mission mode, where you can battle through solo missions and unlock new upgrades and trinkets for each of the 185 different mechs.
The new Branch Battle mode is a little bit like a branching tournament system, where you fight through a difficulty route against other enemies. The Branch Battle can also be played via two-player split-screen co-op.
The split-screen mode can also be extended into co-op mode versus other players online in team battle, not unlike ARMS. So you and buddy can play casual or ranked matches against other players across PSN.
Surprisingly, the game also supports LAN play, which we haven’t seen in too many PC games lately.
If you want to check out the new Mobile Suit Gundam fighting game early, you can sign up for the closed beta test, which will be open up through April 10th.
The closed beta test will run from April 25th through April 27th. Those of you interested in participating can visit the official Bandai Namco website to sign-up for the beta test.
