Anton Pushkarev, Geek Pines and GridManiac announced that there’s a new entrant in the mixed martial arts fight game and it’s called Ultimate MMA. The independent fighting title won’t be arriving on home consoles, but it will be launching at some point in March on Steam for PC.
The game will feature a tournament mode where you create and customize your very own character and then fight for supremacy by unlocking new moves and abilities in order to craft your pugilist into the ultimate fighter.
A trailer for the game was made available some time ago to give you an idea of what the fight mechanics and animations are like for the game. You can check it out below.
Man, those ring girls are looking spicy hot. You won’t find chicks that well-endowed in any mainstream AAA sports games.
The fighting mechanics actually surprised me a heck of a lot more than I thought they would.
The highlight to the fighting is that you can actually attack opponents while they’re in the middle of executing a move, very similar to the old THQ WWE RAW games for the OG Xbox and PC. It’s a shame that more games don’t allow you to pummel and punish opponents during the middle of executing a move.
Usually there are only certain frames where the opponent is made vulnerable during the execution of a move to prevent people from just waiting and punishing their foe during mid-execution of an attack. It’s one of the most annoying things about the EA Sports UFC titles.
Here, however, the fighting looks quite solid. It’s not perfect and the characters don’t move with the most realistic kinetic extensions, but it looks doable for an indie project.
The customization is also another strong highlight, allowing players to add all manner of tattoos or body-morph their fighter into a skinny twig, a bulky face-crusher, or a well cut grappling specialist.
The game will allow you to unlock more than 50 moves from different martial arts disciplines, while there are more than 70 different kicks and punches to apply to your fighter.
Sadly the game will not launch with online multiplayer support. However, you will be able to play with your friends using the built-in remote play.
You can look for Ultimate MMA to launch at some point in March. For more info or to follow the game’s development you can visit the Steam store page or follow progress of the development on the Facebook page.
