Rising Star Games and Toybox finally revealed the release date for Deadly Premonition 2 for the Nintendo Switch. The game was originally announced last fall for Nintendo’s little hybrid that could, and after months of waiting for more details, the release date has been set for July 10th, 2020.
The date was rolled out alongside a brand new trailer for the Nintendo Switch’s avante garde mystery game. It’s only a minute and a half long but it attempts to give you a small taste of the presentation and themes present in the very bizarre, Twin Peaks-esque title from Toybox and White Owl Studios. You can check out the intro sequence below.
With Agent Francis York Morgan falling into a seemingly endless abyss of fiery carmine imagery, there’s definitely a Bond feel to the Deadly Premonition 2 video, especially once you combine it with the increasingly bombastic theme song.
However, I couldn’t help but feel as if Cashell’s “The Deep South” was imitating Eric Clapton and Sting’s “It’s Probably Me” theme from Lethal Weapon 3’s opening sequence. The similitude between the two feels somewhat uncanny. I think it’s the use of the fire and the easy-listening ramp up that feels very familiar.
If you don’t remember Lethal Weapon 3’s intro sequence, you can check it out below.
But I digress.
Deadly Premonition 2 will see players assuming the role of Agent Morgan once more, this time sent to investigate the serial killings taking place in the not-so-picturesque town of Le Carré.
It will be up to players to investigate every suspect, turn over every rock, and navigate through the bizarre and surreal world of Swery’s sequel to the so-bad-it’s-good B-movie style cult-classic from 2010.
