Proxima Universe, Territory Control FPS With Up To 100 Players Preps For Early Access

Vulkanic is working on a new large-scale, cross-platform, multiplayer first-person sci-fi shooter called Proxima Universe. The game was originally crowdfunded through IndieGoGo back in spring of 2018, and after two years of refinement and chiseling away at the rough spots, they’re planning on launching the game on Steam into Early Access to further burnout the impurities and cleanse the game of any of the dark spots.

They recently released a new cinematic trailer highlighting the game’s atmosphere and characters. You can get a glimpse of the two minute promotional piece below, sadly devoid of any actual in-game play at the moment.

The in-engine visuals look nice and the Joseph Trapnese-style soundtrack is definitely inviting.

As for the actual gameplay, originally Proxima Universe was a Battle Royale-inspired game, but after some tweaking and feedback they decided to take a more Planetside-esque approach to the game, with a focus on territory control rather than the Battle Royale setup.

The new main mode is called Terra Control, and it breaks players down into four teams who need to capture and maintain control points throughout the map.

The map supports up to 100 players per instance and features a real 24-hour day and night time cycle, so you get fairly difference experiences depending on the time of day in the map itself.

The map size is 4×4 square kilometers and it will feature real-time weather dynamics and seasonal changes.

There are different weapon types, including ballistics, plasma, and thrown weapons, along with upgrades and customization.

There are different class types and both third-person and first-person viewing options.

Party systems, voice chat, modding and dedicated servers are also all part of the line-up of features for Proxima Universe.

According to the Early Access FAQ they plan on spending around 12 months in the Early Access phase until reaching version 1.0.

You can follow or wishlist Proxima Universe right now by visiting the Steam store page.
