Sea Of Stars Kickstarter Acquires Services Of Guest Composer Yasunori Mitsuda

One of the best video game composers from the golden era of gaming is making a return to compose music as a guest composer for Sabotage Studio’s crowdfunded Sea of Stars, which is a JRPG-inspired title that’s still gathering funds over on the Kickstarter page.

The project has just over a week to go to gather up any remaining funds from backers. At the moment, it has more than 12,900 backers, and that number continues to climb as more people are made aware that one of the most prolific and celebrated video game composers is contributing his immeasurable talents to the project.

Over on the Sea of Stars page, they have a quote from Mitsuda, who explained why he joined Sabotage’s project, saying…

“Without knowing exactly why, ‘I want to write music for this game’ was the feeling I had while seeing it convey the nostalgic golden age of the 90s. Although there are still many games being released with this classic style, I don’t think players are satisfied with just nostalgia. As seen in their previous game, by adding new systems and ideas to classic formulas, Sabotage Studio breathes fresh, new air into their work. Impressed by the respect they show for past games while at the same time giving players new ways to have fun, I found myself wanting to make a game with everyone at Sabotage Studio. Please look forward to an exciting adventure.”

He’s right.

A lot of these pseudo-nostalgic projects will imitate the 16-bit art-styles from the SNES but then fail to deliver much more than that. Other games are hideous hodge-podges of pixels that are filled to the brim with a Liberal Progressive agenda and not much else.

To Sabotage’s credit, The Messenger was quite a tall order given that the game is both an 8-bit and a 16-bit style platformer, allowing players to switch back and forth between the two. It wasn’t just another poor-form imitation like other hipster studios. They’re attempting to do something similar with Sea of Stars, taking classic Chrono Trigger-style turn-based combat but improve on the hand-painted artwork and battle mechanics.

I don’t have a lot of hope that the game will be free of Liberal Progressivism given that unfortunately Sabotage is located in Quebec, Canada, which is one of the most converged places from which an artist can hail.

In any case, if you’re interested in contributing to the cause, you can learn more about Sea of Stars by visiting the Kickstarter page.

The game isn’t expected to land on PC and home consoles until March, 2022.
